The Simple Things

The Simple Things Issue 117 March

TONIC – Spanish spring chicken & Mexican street corn. Why we love a windmill. Pineapple Margaritas. The Tale of Beatrix Potter. How brownies always help. Having a just-for-you day. G&T drizzle cake. Life in a handbag and the joy of a cardi. New ways to walk. Bathtub ponds, beautiful nests & indoor jungles.

Spring is a like a tonic after the long months of winter. Except it doesn’t always deliver as advertised; there are spring flowers and sunny spells but also cold winds, blustery rain and we have to wait until the end of March for lighter evenings. So, we look elsewhere for pick-me-ups as the season catches up with the calendar. And they may not always be where and when we expect them – a walk in the rain can become an exhilarating experience or, if you’re craving colour, serving dinner on bright crockery can help if your garden isn’t yet delivering. Meanwhile, cake (or a brownie) is guaranteed to lift sagging spirits. Most of us have a growing urge after a quiet winter is to do things. We recommend devoting a day to doing one good thing and you’ll be rejuvenated and ready to enjoy spring proper.
