Lodestars Anthology 12 : Switzerland

Steeped in history, Switzerland is both lavish and refined - chocolate-box perfection guaranteed to surprise. It is a playground, refuge and wonderland. A hideaway and delight. And amongst these pages are hints of all it has to offer. There are tales of intrigue and adventure, romance and the sublime - of towns where time is kept and paused, cantons that charm, literary escapades, wilderness, trains and alpine fare that is very fine indeed.

Splendid and suave, Switzerland - with its mountains, lakes and palatial hotels - is remarkably good for the soul.

Featuring Neuchâtel | Lausanne | Geneva | Gstaad | Mürren | Zürich | St. Gallen | Bad Ragaz | St. Moritz | Ascona | Lugano | Bern | Great St. Bernard Pass | Bürgenstock | Scuol | The Orient Express

Lodestars Anthology is an independent magazine-meets-journal for curious travellers who long to be inspired, see the world and meet interesting characters along the road. Focusing on one country per issue, Lodestars is a scrapbook of place, a magazine that goes deep into the heart of a location and uncovers its quirks, flavours and splendor, taking a truly personal, beautifully crafted and slow approach to the art of travel journalism.

With stunning photography, thoughtful and beautifully written stories, and original illustrations - produced in Bristol by a small independent press with an eye for detail and a love for print –Lodestars is a thing of beauty in its own right. You’ll probably want to keep it atop a coffee table, or perhaps you’ll want to fill it with scribblings and notes and stow it away in your travel bag for inspiration whilst on the road.

In recent issues we’ve rambled up the Keele River by canoe; gone hawk-walking in the bonnie braes, found paradise on Lord Howe Island, been foraging at Daylesford, hitched a ride with ice-road truckers to Aklavik, and taken a turn around the garden with Antonio Carluccio . . . We’ve been for a dip in a lost lake, practiced the art of Fika in Stockholm, gone cattle-wrangling in the Kimberley, wandered Tuscan hills with saffron farmers, and much more besides.

This year we’ve been off to say bonjour to France and namaste to India, with many more adventures to other intriguing destinations in the pipeline too.
