"A love letter to the rich visual history of flying."
Direction of Travel is a newspaper about airline maps. Each issue takes two major airlines and takes you through vintage airline maps from the 1930s to the present day.
There's nothing from the internet, and all images and maps are photographs of physical maps collected or sourced by maker, Christian Nolle.
In this second edition of the very first issue, Direction of Travel looks at the two US giants, United and American Airlines. As well as the taking you through the history of the airlines, and the history of the inflight map, there are lots of stories within the maps themselves. You'll find a monopoly style game from AA's 1955 inflight map and the 1938 United map entitled 'A Gay Geography of the Main Line Airway' with information about the cities you can visit on the airline.
