Class Lines and Red Rhymes is a pocket-sized collection of 25 illustrated poems compiled by Janine Booth from the Poets on the Picket Lines project, published by the team behind Left Cultures magazine.
What grabbed us...
Twenty-five poems from the picket line is a specific enough brief to give the collection real focus. Attila the Stockbroker and Porky the Poet sit alongside Janine Booth and Dee Dickens. It’s a broad range of voices for something this small. Printed in A5, it fits in a pocket. That feels intentional for a collection about labour and protest.
Who’s Class Lines and Red Rhymes for?
Class Lines and Red Rhymes is one for when you want poetry with somewhere to be. Each poem comes from the Poets on the Picket Lines project, giving the collection a shared sense of purpose. This would suit you if you’re drawn to political poetry with a strong working-class voice. Think of it as a pamphlet you’ll actually keep. It’s one to reach for when you want something short and charged.
