Hello!
We’re Pics & Ink – the place to buy interesting and unusual magazines, the type most people can’t find in their local newsagents. We love indie print and think there’s an indie magazine out there that suits you; you just might not know it exists yet.
We're not a shop that lists covers and waits for you to figure it out. We sit with every issue we stock, get to know what's inside, and write descriptions in our own voice so you can work out whether a magazine is for you before you buy it.
How we got here
Pics & Ink is part of Iceberg Press, a small publishing house based in Oxted, Surrey.
David and Lisa have spent their working lives in magazines. They cut their teeth at some of the biggest publishers in the UK but came away believing there was a better way to do it. One where readers mattered more than advertisers. One where the writing and the design and the paper itself were treated as the point, not as the wrapping.
They quit their jobs, ploughed in their savings, and borrowed the rest to start Iceberg Press. They bought The Simple Things, kept publishing it, and a few years later opened Pics&Ink to put other publishers' independent magazines in front of the readers they deserve.
The team behind the shop
The same small team that looks after The Simple Things subscriptions also run Pics & Ink. When you order from us, your magazine is picked, read and packed by people who spend their days surrounded by indie print.
It means a few things in practice. We know what goes into making indie titles because we make one too. We read everything we stock because we genuinely want to. And we pack each order ourselves, because we know how easily a magazine can arrive bent if you don't pay attention.
If you ever want a recommendation, want to know more about a title, or just fancy a chat about magazines, get in touch. We like hearing from readers.
If you'd rather we did the choosing for you, our subscription service Free Range Magazines is built for that. Pick one of four streams based on what you’re into, we’ll send an indie title to your door every two months with a tasting note about the mag and the makers behind it. You can read more about it here.
