Folding Rock

Folding Rock 4: Telling Tales

Bold, playful and proudly Welsh,Folding Rock is published three times a year and takes a different approach to the traditional literary magazine.

What grabbed us about this issue…

This issue,Telling Tales, turns its attention to something we all do: storytelling. One thing we enjoy about Folding Rock is how it experiments with form — and this issue is no exception. We kept coming back to a piece on the resilience of ‘Merlin’s Oak’, accompanied by a QR code linking to an archival news broadcast, which adds a more immersive feel. If you’re into folklore, there’s an article that looks at how inherited stories shape our habits, behaviours and views, which is worth a read. There’s also an essay on Filipino ghost stories that might spark your curiosity…

Who’s Folding Rock for?

Folding Rock offers an open space for writers to experiment with form, from essays and interviews to fiction. You can tell it’s rooted in its aim to support and develop new Welsh talent, while giving space to a range of voices and styles. This would suit you if you’re interested in literary magazines and are open to discovering new writing. It’s one to dip into when you’re in the mood for something a little different.
