Merde is a satirical fashion magazine that reflects on the people and creative processes behind art. It's published annually in Los Angeles, California and printed in Riga, Latvia but it's team are from France and Germany as well as the USA.
What grabbed us about this issue...
This issue has been named "The Double Issue" as it explores juxtapositions of opposites in fashion like serious and playful or sincere and satire. We loved the striking cover art staring Brazilian model Thalita Farie and the candid conversation that goes with it. We were impressed by the discussion of mental health in the fashion industry coupled with a fun and quirky photoshoot, that reminded us of the hard work and pain behind creating art. We also enjoyed meeting Maïcee, the French, London based musical artist who embraces her individuality, and creates music that encourages others to refuse to fit in too.
Who is Merde for?
Merde is a funny and unfiltered read. It doesn't take itself too seriously but at the same time it is incredibly passionate about the art and fashion that it explores. It's a great way to discover unusual and out-there designers making bold moves in the fashion world and it takes time to explore each feature in depth. It has a self-deprecating tone that will be appreciated by fellow creative people and assertive and unapologetic photography. If you're looking for something weird and visually different with candid and passionate commentary, this one's for you.
