Sirene Journal

Sirene Issue 23

Sirene is a biannual magazine that loves the ocean. From literature, history, travel and adventure, its pages are filled with personal connections with the sea.

What grabbed us about this issue...

The articles in this issue show a sense of community that can come from time on or near the sea. We were heartened by the reflections of marine biologist Dave Withrow, as he remembers how Operation Breakthrough brought together American and Soviet teams in an attempt to break the ice trapping three grey whales in Alaska. ‘NYC By Kayak’ has kayaker Robert Dolan introduce his love of being on the water before sharing an excerpt from his book New York City By Kayak, which offers a new perspective on the city. Photos from the annual Sea, Salts and Sails festival in Mousehole, Cornwall, capture the spirit of this historic harbour village.

Who is Sirene for?

Sirene is made for the people who feel close to the ocean even when they are far away from it. But beyond that it's for those who want to read something refreshing and calming. With an eclectic mix of content there are all sorts of features to try out, perfect for those moments when you want to take a short break to read something uplifting that is closely linked to the ocean.
