Slightly Foxed

Slightly Foxed Issue 90 Summer 2026

Slightly Foxed is a quarterly magazine that introduces its readers to books that are no longer new and fashionable but have lasting appeal. It’s more like a well-read friend than a literary magazine.

What grabbed us about this issue.....

The enthusiasm for each recommendation comes through strongly and you get a real sense that every writer has spent time with their subject. We kept coming back to Daisy Hay's piece on Frances Burney's first novel Evelina, which finds fresh ground in a corner of Regency literature that doesn't always get much attention. The final feature has a personal feel, with writer Simon De Burton meeting Ted Simon, the man whose own round-the-world motorcycle journey inspired him to take to the road himself after reading Jupiter's Travels.

Who is Slightly Foxed for?

Slightly Foxed is one for when you want a slower, more considered approach to finding your next read. Each piece offers plenty of background on its subject before the book itself comes into view, so you arrive at the recommendation having already built an appetite for it. This would suit you if you enjoy longer-form reading and like to dip in and out rather than read cover to cover.
