How to Pick a Mag You'll Actually Finish
We’ve all picked up a magazine with good intentions. Some you can finish in one sitting, others seem to wait for the right moment that never quite comes. They sit to the side, quietly reminding us they’re still there.
We’ve found that finishing a magazine isn’t always about discipline. It often comes down to finding the right one for the moment.
Depending on the moment, we tend to reach for different kinds of magazines…
The one you dip into
The kind you pick up for a quick ten minute flick through, while the kettle’s boiling or something’s on the hob. They’re often more visual, with a mix of shorter pieces that are easy to move between. You might read a few pages at a time, or find yourself staying a little longer. Either way, there’s no pressure to read it from start to finish.
The one you sit with
These are slower, more text-led and ask a bit more of your attention. Not always the easiest place to start, but one to return to when you have the time to settle into it.We tend to reach for these on quieter afternoons, when you’re in the mood to sit with something and see where it goes.
The one that connects to something you already enjoy
There’s often a magazine that sits neatly alongside something you already spend time on. Travel, food, cycling or craft. They can be some of the easiest to finish, as they feel like a natural extension of that interest, rather than something separate.

Not every magazine will suit every person and we think that’s part of the appeal. Some are more niche, others take a bit more time to get into.
When choosing your next one, it can help to think about how you want to spend your time. Whether you’re after something visual to unwind with, or something you can sit with for a while. Sometimes it’s as simple as following a subject you’re already curious about.
We keep a wide range on the shelves, each offering a slightly different way in. There’s usually one that fits, it’s just a matter of finding it.
Take a browse - you might find yourself finishing one without really trying to.
