Adbusters is a not-for-profit activist magazine that has challenged political and consumer culture since 1989.
What grabbed us about this issue...
The Plus/Minus Issue puts a blunt question at its centre: is there any hope left? It works through how nations and movements rise and eventually collapse. We kept coming back to the scrapbook-style layout, which gives the whole thing a raw, immediate quality. It feels less like a read and more like a manifesto pinned to a wall.
Who's Adbusters for?
Adbusters is one for when you want your reading to push back at you. It has a strong point of view and doesn't soften it. Behind campaigns like Occupy Wall Street and Buy Nothing Day, this is a title with real reach beyond its pages. Each issue takes a different cultural pressure point as its focus. The writing is paired with design that feels closer to protest art than editorial layout. You can tell this is a title made by people who believe print can still change minds. Not the easiest entry point if you're new to activist culture, but it rewards the effort. Think of it as a cultural provocation rather than a leisurely browse. It's one to reach for when you want to feel genuinely unsettled by what you're holding.
