Fields & Stations

Fields & Stations Issue 3

Fields & Stations is a travel magazine of good writing for curious travellers, using small cultural details to tell bigger stories about the places we move through.

What grabbed us about this issue...

Issue 3 ranges widely and the Kolkata essay is the place to find first. A special commission in a magazine this size signals something worth the attention. We also enjoyed the Saint Helena piece. One of the world’s most remote inhabited islands is exactly the kind of familiar-to-nobody destination Fields & Stations handles well. The thread of place-specific scents running through the issue is worth noting too. Using smell as an editorial lens gives the writing a sensory register that most travel journalism doesn’t attempt.

Who’s Fields & Stations for?

Fields & Stationsis one for when you want travel writing that earns its observations. Each issue focuses on the small cultural details, a shop, a sandwich, a local ritual, that open up into something larger. The writing is curious rather than aspirational. This would suit you if you find most travel journalism too polished and want something that sits with the difficulty of being somewhere new. Think of it as a literary travel companion rather than a guide. It’s one to reach for when you want to go somewhere in your imagination without leaving the room.
