Left Cultures

Left Cultures #4

Left Cultures is the magazine that explores the political Left's cultural past within film, literature, music, art and poetry.

What grabbed us about this issue...

Issue 4 brings together over 50 personal stories about the films, music, books and people that have shaped left-wing culture, each paired with its own commissioned illustration. We kept coming back to Jessie Jones’s piece on falling out of love with Radiohead over the band’s politics, which opens up a thoughtful discussion about boycotting artists you admire. If you’re into music, you might enjoy Lottie Brown’s take on The Communards’ ‘Don’t Leave Me This Way’ and what it says about class. There’s also a tribute to singer and activist Paul Robeson that’s worth a look if you enjoy stories of art and activism going hand in hand.

Who is Left Cultures for?

Left Cultures is for passionate and curious minded people who are keen to get involved in politics in an offline way. It's filled with personal stories that are unusual and interesting but all connected to themes of Leftist politics. Every story is accompanied by creative and expressive illustrations making it a visually stimulating read, as well as informative and eye-opening one. It's a great read to learn something new and to gather great stories to share with others.
