Tonic is a biannual drink and travel magazine bringing you the culture of and the history behind drinks from around the world.
What grabbed us about this issue....
We were curious to read a feature on the rituals linking death and drink, tracing practices from ancient Egypt through to Paris’ 19th-century death cabarets. Closer to home, Nature Distilled tells the story of Capreolus Distillery in the Cotswolds, which began life in a garden shed. Founder Barney Wilczak now produces small batches of fruit brandies using ingredients sourced from within a 35-mile radius.
Who is Tonicfor?
You don’t need a deep knowledge of drinks or travel to get into Tonic, as it keeps things clear and free from jargon. The personal angle running through each piece helps ground the history and culture behind the drinks. There is a mix of photography, graphics and longer reads, making it one to try if you’re as interested in the landscapes and places behind each bottle as the drinks themselves.
