Umbigo Issue 92

Umbigo is a well-established quarterly arts and culture journal from Portugal. Issues contain essays, interviews, special art projects and collaborations and much more and the covers are specially designed for the magazine.

Issue 92 opens a window into the many faces of intimacy in the digital age. At once tender and politically charged, this issue asks: what does intimacy mean today, when touch, privacy and connection are being redefined? Far from being a retreat into sentimentality, it confronts intimacy as a site of power, space and resistance.

We feature an art project by transfeminine Mexican artist Manuel Solano, whose cover work reflects on personal and communal rituals of closeness and care. Other contributors explore intimacy through diverse lenses: from duets of voice as relational resistance, to virtual spaces that simulate human contact yet reveal our yearning for authenticity.

Within its pages you'll find essays on how technology shapes embodied relationships; interviews unpacking intimacy as political strategy across cultural contexts; and visual essays that map emotional proximity-in the home, on the street or online. Projects range from poetic meditations or ancestral touch, to multimedia installations that fold memory and proximity into public dialogue.

Umbigo #92 is both reflection and manifesto: intimacy as contemporary art, as radical politics, as lived experience. The issue closes with a communal gesture honoring shared vulnerability and the possibilities of closeness in a fractured world.
