Wobby Volume 12 no.43

Wobby is a biannual visual arts magazine from the Netherlands, bringing together illustration, literature and comics. It has a colourful, independent feel, with work that often leans towards the more playful and experimental.

What grabbed us about this issue....

Issue 43 has an eerie feeling with the theme of Great Escape. This is explored as both something we might dream of doing and something we may be forced to do in our lives. The black-and-white words and illustrations by Karen Keyrouz stood out as she reflects on her experience of coping with conflict through war, and a shared fear of danger with people who are important to her.

Who is Wobby for?

This would suit you if you enjoy graphic art and thoughtful storytelling, where ideas unfold visually rather than through long passages of text. The risograph printing gives each page a distinctive, slightly handmade feel, with layered colours and textures. You don’t need any background in illustration to get into it, it’s something you can dip into, moving between the short pieces in no particular order.
