Bother

Bother Issue 4

Published by the founders of clothing brand HebTroCo, Bother is a West Yorkshire magazine that celebrates the slow route.

What grabbed us about this issue...

Inside issue 4, we found the Frank Sidebottom feature genuinely difficult to explain, which makes the attempt worth reading. The papier-mâché headed cult figure from Timperley has that effect. We also kept coming back to the local artist making sculptures from rusted and reclaimed metal. Tokyo makes an unexpected appearance too. A tour of the city’s jazz joints is a long way from West Yorkshire, which is exactly the point.

Who’s Bother for?

Bother is one for when you want to slow down without going anywhere. Founded by the team behind HebTroCo, it has the feel of something made with genuine affection for a place. Each issue wanders between local peaks and distant cities without losing its Yorkshire footing. You can tell this is a magazine that believes in taking the long way round. This would suit you if you’re drawn to writing that values pace and place over news and noise. There’s also a £20 HebTroCo voucher tucked inside each issue. Think of it as a meandering walk in print form. It’s one to reach for when you want to put the phone down and stay a while.
