The Film Pupil

The Film Pupil Issue 11

This bi-monthly, A5-sized zine edited and illustrated by Oliver Spicer includes essays, interviews with independent directors, infographics, cartoons, and sections dedicated to film history.

What grabbed us about this issue?

Jordan O’Shea revisits the themes of the 1960s film Quadrophenia and how they still resonate today. Elsewhere, the biography section looks back to the early days of sound cinema, introducing the energetic work of sound effects artist Jack Foley. We also enjoyed the data section including how films have influenced baby names in the US.

Who is The Film Pupilfor?

The film-led topics often move in less expected directions, giving this zine a slightly offbeat feel. It’s one to try if you’re curious about how film connects to wider ideas and culture, whether you follow the industry closely or not.
