New Humanist

New Humanist Autumn 2022

First published in 1885, New Humanist is a quarterly magazine of ideas, science and culture.

What grabbed us about this issue…

This Autumn 2022 issue takes war as its theme, looking at how the stories we tell about conflict have changed over time. We kept coming back to a piece on new superstitions, which explores the modern beliefs and rituals we still cling to. If you’re curious about how we see each other, you might enjoy the look at which social groups carry a visual stereotype and why. There’s also a piece on satirising sexism that’s worth a look if you like your social commentary with a sharp sense of humour.

Who's New Humanist for?

New Humanistis one for when you're seeking a bit more connection to the world around you. Think of it as a way to stay across the latest ideas in science, politics and culture, with articles that don't assume much prior knowledge. It's one to reach for when you have a bit of time to yourself - the crossword at the back is worth saving room for too!
