New Humanist

New Humanist Autumn 2023

First published in 1885, New Humanist is a quarterly magazine of ideas, science and culture.

What grabbed us about this issue…

This Autumn 2023 issue asks what we owe to the future, as the climate crisis affects more people around the world. We kept coming back to historian Ken Worpole’s piece on what today’s climate protesters can learn from the pacifists of the Second World War, which offers a fresh perspective on unpopular causes. If you’re into science, you might enjoy hearing from Oxford researcher Tess Johnson on how we can still stop the threat of antibiotic resistance. There’s also a piece making the case for the right to wild camp that’s worth a look if you love the great outdoors.

Who's New Humanist for?

New Humanistis one for when you're seeking a bit more connection to the world around you. Think of it as a way to stay across the latest ideas in science, politics and culture, with articles that don't assume much prior knowledge. It's one to reach for when you have a bit of time to yourself - the crossword at the back is worth saving room for too!
