Disegno

Disegno #27

Published quarterly, Disegno is an independent magazine dedicated to in-depth reporting on architecture, design and fashion.

What grabbed us about this issue...

Issue 27 opens with a roundtable on race and the design industry alongside Where Are the Black Designers? It’s a conversation the industry has been slow to have and Disegno gives it the space it deserves. The beheaded Columbus piece approaches the problem of monuments from a design perspective. It’s a more precise angle than the culture war framing that usually surrounds the debate. The calorie counting and information design feature is also worth seeking out. It connects public health policy and graphic design in a way that’s more revealing than either field manages alone.

Who’s Disegno for?

Disegno is one for when you want design writing that treats the subject as a political and cultural force. Each issue moves between architecture, fashion and design without privileging one field over another. The writing is long-form and independent. This would suit you if you’re already engaged with design culture and want criticism that keeps pace with that thinking. Think of it as a quarterly journal of design ideas rather than a showcase. It’s one to reach for when you want to feel properly inside the debate.
