Ernest Journal 5

Ernest Journal is a lifestyle magazine for those with a sense of wonder, covering adventure, slow living and curious ideas.

What grabbed us about this issue...

Issue 5 opens with made-up languages and earns its place immediately. We enjoyed how a subject that sounds niche opens into questions about how language shapes thought. The geological map that changed the world is also worth seeking out. William Smith’s 1815 map of Britain’s rock strata is one of the great acts of scientific translation and the feature gives it the attention it deserves. The cryonics piece rounds things out with the most unsettling idea in an issue full of them.

Who’s Ernest Journal for?

Ernest Journal is one for when you want to feel genuinely curious about the world. Each issue gathers ideas from folklore, design, adventure and slow living without any single thread dominating. You can tell this is made by people who find the world endlessly interesting. This would suit you if you’re drawn to reading that sends you down unexpected paths. Think of it as a cabinet of curiosities in magazine form. It’s one to reach for when you want to learn something you didn’t know you wanted to know.
