Fare

Fare Issue 16: Taipei

Published biannually, each issue ofFarebrings a different city to life by exploring its culture through food, history and community.

What grabbed us about this issue…

The Taipei issue opens with author Aichu Hung's memories of Dadaocheng, the city's oldest district. We enjoyed how the layering of traditional ingredients, Chinese medicine and Japanese colonial architecture in a single neighbourhood tells the story of Taipei more honestly than any overview could. The sober day bar hidden in Zhongshan is also worth seeking out. A young entrepreneur building a tea-based cocktail culture is a quieter kind of city story and Fare gives it the space it deserves.

Who’s Fare for?

Fareis one for travellers who like to experience a city like a local. It feels more like an immersive travel experience than a magazine. Each issue features the work of local writers, photographers and illustrators to capture the sights, sounds, smells and creative spirit of each city. Printed on high-quality paper, it’s a great size to fit in your luggage. So whether you use it as a pocket-guide or inspiration, it’s worth keeping handy when you want to visit somewhere new.
