The Poetry Review Vol 116, No 3 Autumn 2026

Published by The Poetry Society since 1912, The Poetry Review is the UK's leading poetry magazine.

What grabbed us about this issue....

We enjoyed the repeating rhythm and use of language that describes the movement in the poem Over by So Mayer. It took a couple of reads to realise the piece is mirrored, which gives it a familiar sound and encourages you to read it a few times. Also in the new poetry section, three poems by Jack Underwood use repetition to create the feeling of catchy songs, making them easy to connect with. One of these, Song of Facts My Daughter Teaches Me, stayed with us for a while, as it describes a child pretending to eat from an empty lunch box and a father in the ruins of his home.

Who's The Poetry Reviewfor?

Each issue opens with a broad selection of poetry, presented with little guidance. It feels more like a book than a magazine and is one to try if you’re comfortable sitting with poems and forming your own interpretations. If you’re newer to poetry, there are essays and reviews which offer a more accessible way in, though you might find yourself wanting to look up a few references along the way. It's one to dip into when you want to take a moment to explore complex themes and think a little more deeply.
