New Humanist

New Humanist Spring 2023

First published in 1885, New Humanist is a quarterly magazine of ideas, science and culture.

What grabbed us about this issue…

This Spring 2023 issue looks at our drive to live longer, sleep better and get stronger. We kept coming back to Diletta De Cristofaro’s piece on night terrors and other strange sleep disorders, which reveals a side of sleep that our obsession with getting more of it tends to overlook. If you’re curious about the fitness boom, you might enjoy Peter Salmon’s look at how weightlifting went from a fringe pursuit to a global industry. There’s also an interview with Anna Lembke, author of Dopamine Nation, that’s worth a look if you’re interested in finding a healthier balance between pleasure and pain.

Who's New Humanist for?

New Humanistis one for when you're seeking a bit more connection to the world around you. Think of it as a way to stay across the latest ideas in science, politics and culture, with articles that don't assume much prior knowledge. It's one to reach for when you have a bit of time to yourself - the crossword at the back is worth saving room for too!
