Folklife

FOLKLIFE Volume 12

Published twice a year, Folklife is a slow-living magazine from Canada inspired by those who live close to the earth, with intention and creativity.

What grabbed us about this issue…

This issue of Folklife challenges traditional views of death and brings something new to the conversation. It feels more like a tasteful appreciation ofhow others have moved through feelings that we inevitably negotiate throughout life. We enjoyed how this issue nods to the magazine’s Western Canadian roots, with a feature on the Kwakwaka’wakw Nation and their practices of remembrance. There’s also a feature on reinvention of the self that’s worth a look.

Who's Folklife for?

There's a real sense of intention behind Folklife, made for those who find themselves drawn to quieter, more grounded ways of living. It reads more like a literary journal than a lifestyle magazine, with longer pieces that ask you to sit with an idea rather than scan and move on. This would suit you if you're looking for something that goes a little deeper, less surface inspiration and more genuine reflection. It's one to settle into with a warm drink when you want to spend some real time with the natural world.
