MacGuffin No 16: The Mirror

MacGuffin is a biannual magazine dedicated to ordinary objects with extraordinary histories. Each issue picks one object to explore through science, art, literature and culture.

What grabbed us about this issue...

This issue's focus is on mirrors, reflecting on the fashions and cultures of the everyday object. We loved the cinema piece about the use of mirrors in films and what they represent, like in Showgirls (1995) and Black Swan (2010). There's more fiction in the form of two short stories, one being the classic myth of Echo and Narcissus, one of the most iconic uses of reflection in literature. Or if fashion and history is more your thing, this issue looks into the use of mirrors in clothing from ancient times and how that has translated into modern day.

Who is MacGuffin for?

For curious minded people interested in a range of topics from the creative to the scientific, MacGuffinis a well rounded magazine. Each issue focuses on a specific theme and uses long features as well as visual elements to explore it. There's a mixture of literature, history, philosophy and design, all of which that will give you great topics of conversation for your next dinner party. It's the magazine that you read to gain some niche but interesting knowledge and to spark your own imaginative and deep thoughts.

Type: long-form, reflective read.
