New Humanist

New Humanist Spring 2024

First published in 1885, New Humanist is a quarterly magazine of ideas, science and culture.

What grabbed us about this issue…

This Spring 2024 issue celebrates science and the way we share it. We kept coming back to a piece on why science and art shouldn’t be seen as opposites, which makes a strong case for how much they have in common. If you love a good explanation, you might enjoy the look at how metaphor helps us make sense of complex scientific ideas. There’s also a piece on the rise of lie detector tests in UK policing that’s worth a look if you’re curious about how science is used in the justice system.

Who's New Humanist for?

New Humanistis one for when you're seeking a bit more connection to the world around you. Think of it as a way to stay across the latest ideas in science, politics and culture, with articles that don't assume much prior knowledge. It's one to reach for when you have a bit of time to yourself - the crossword at the back is worth saving room for too!
