Family Portrait is a photography magazine exploring the dynamics of family life in its many forms, from traditional households to close-knit communities across the world.
What grabbed us about this issue...
Issue 2 has a strong sense of place running through it. The multi-generational Ukrainian family in the rural countryside gives the issue an unexpected weight. Seeing ordinary family life documented so closely in a country now at war makes the photography feel like something more than portraiture. We also enjoyed the Goose Fair outing in Nottingham. A travelling funfair as a backdrop for family dynamics is a very particular kind of British scene.
Who’s Family Portrait for?
Family Portraitis one for when you want to sit with photography rather than move through it quickly. Each issue gathers photo stories from different parts of the world around a single broad theme. The production has the weight and feel of a photobook rather than a periodical. This would suit you if you’re drawn to documentary photography and the quiet drama of everyday life. Think of it as a study of how people live together in all its forms. It’s one to reach for when you want to feel connected to lives very different from your own.
