Pressing Matters

Pressing Matters Issue 34

Pressing Matters is a quarterly magazine celebrating modern printmaking. Each issue visits artists and studios doing incredible things. Discover about their work, their inspirations and why they do what they do.

What grabbed us about this issue?

As usual this issue of Pressing Mattersis a visual feast filled with extraordinary colours and patterns. The theme for this issue is the "ripple effect" but what does that mean? For some artists it means how changing something very small in your process can lead to new and exciting outcomes. Or for others it's about how your environment can inspire and influence art. Like Kristen McClarty whose prints are full of life and movement, inspired by the places that she loves to swim. Or Elisa Dublanc's detailed and precise etchings that explore the connection between humans and nature. We enjoyed learning about the process and work that goes in to creating such unusual art and where the artists' ripple of inspiration begins.

Who is Pressing Matters for?

For those who enjoy visually stimulating reads, Pressing Matters is a brilliant and unusual collection of art to browse at a slow pace. If you're interested in the more technical side of print making, the writing is detailed and insightful about the artistic process, but remains accessible and welcoming to those who might know nothing about the medium.

It feels like a warm and friendly read and there is a strong sense of community inside too. As well as featuring and celebrating a variety of print artists from all different backgrounds, they also invite their readers to get involved and submit their own work which is showcased at the end of the magazine. So if you want to make a print of your own, this magazine can give you both the inspiration, information and encouragement to get started.
