Counterpoint

Counterpoint 24: Long

Published twice a year, Counterpoint is a magazine of original journalism and illustration, produced and printed by a team of two in Edinburgh.

What grabbed us about this issue...

LONG is the theme and the M8 motorway piece is the one to find. Using a road as a lens for Scotland’s past and future is a bigger idea than it first sounds. The piece on ten-hour theatre is worth seeking out too. Dionysos Stadt is a genuinely demanding subject and Counterpoint goes there without blinking. How long it takes to write a novel sits quietly alongside both.

Who’s Counterpoint for?

Counterpoint is one for when you want something genuinely handmade. Each copy is risograph-printed on recycled paper, a Japanese mechanical printing technique that layers colours one at a time. It means no two copies are quite identical. You can tell this is a title made with real attention to craft. This would suit you if you enjoy short, surprising journalism with a strong illustrative identity. Think of it as a small object worth keeping. It’s one to reach for when you want something that feels different from anything else on your shelf.
