Cranked

Cranked Issue 24

Published quarterly, Cranked is a mountain biking magazine made by riders, covering the culture and people of the sport.

What grabbed us about this issue...

Issue 24 takes the pandemic year as its subject, asking what riding actually meant when everything else stopped. Dan Wynn’s attempt to conquer over 200 Lake District summits on an old bike with homemade panniers is the one that stays with you. It’s a very particular kind of ambition. Tom Hill’s piece on how trail centres saved British mountain biking is worth seeking out too. It makes a case that sounds obvious until you realise nobody had properly made it before.

Who’s Cranked for?

Cranked is one for when you want mountain biking writing that takes the sport seriously as a culture. Each issue goes looking for the riders and stories that don’t make the mainstream cycling press. This would suit you if you ride and want to read about people who have built their lives around the sport. Think of it as a long-form companion to the trails rather than a gear guide. It’s one to reach for when you’re back from a ride and want to stay in that headspace.
