Fields & Stations is a travel magazine of good writing for curious travellers, using small cultural details to tell bigger stories about the places we move through.
What grabbed us about this issue...
Issue 1 is built around contributor passions rather than editorial briefs and it shows. Robert Reid on Oklahoma is the kind of commission that only happens when someone already loves the subject. Lee Cobaj’s guide to the weird corners of Causeway Bay gives the issue its most specific sense of place. Troy Litten’s photographs of an unsung corner of the former Soviet Union round things out with the most quietly unexpected destination in the first issue.
Who’s Fields & Stations for?
Fields & Stationsis one for when you want travel writing that earns its observations. Each issue focuses on the small cultural details, a shop, a sandwich, a local ritual, that open up into something larger. The writing is curious rather than aspirational. This would suit you if you find most travel journalism too polished and want something that sits with the difficulty of being somewhere new. Think of it as a literary travel companion rather than a guide. It’s one to reach for when you want to go somewhere in your imagination without leaving the room.
