The interview with Ryk Downes is worth a look for a different kind of perspective on running. After collapsing while out running due to a hereditary condition, Ryk went on to found an ultramarathon event company in Yorkshire, and you can tell the experience shaped how he runs things. Every runner gets video guides of the course, well stocked check points and home-cooked food at the finish line. In one of the shorter pieces, Donnie Campbell, Scottish runner and record-holder, shares the items he never heads out without, whatever the weather throws at him.
Who is Ultra magazine for?Ultra includes some longer reads that go beyond the physical side of running, drawing on personal experience. If you're drawn to endurance sport for its mental demands as much as its physical ones, there are plenty of perspectives here to reflect on. It's one to take your time with.
