What grabbed us about this issue…
Philadelphia gives Fare an unusually rich set of stories to work with. The Fletcher Street Urban Riding Club is the place to start. Riding the streets of North Philly with an organisation preserving the tradition of Black cowboys in the city is not a story you find anywhere else. We also enjoyed the oral history of Philadelphia’s Indigenous foodways with a Lenape chief. It gives the issue a deeper historical layer than the street art and sports culture alone would provide.
