The Fence

The Fence Issue 27

The Fence is a London-based literary, cultural and satirical magazine billing itself as "the UK's only magazine." It's a mix of longer features, fiction, witty observations and some first-class satire.

What grabbed us about this issue...

The back section is a good place to begin, with short features that are easy to get absorbed in along with the fun graphics. We enjoyed the list of Britain’s most humiliating moments this century, as well as a tongue-in-cheek take on the unwritten rules of films aimed at older audiences. Elsewhere, stories from the life of fashion designer Pam Hogg offer a more personal look at her path through the industry, and what it has meant to work as an outsider.

Who is The Fence for?

This would suit you if you enjoy commentary on everyday British life, with a mix of humour and observation that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It leans towards a more casual, dip-in-and-out read, with shorter pieces alongside longer features that dwell on an idea a little more. One for when you want something that reflects on culture, media and the small details of modern life, often from an offbeat or unexpected angle.
