Abitare 649

Abitare is a monthly Italian magazine with a global outlook on art, architecture and design.

What grabbed us about this issue…

The Tirana feature is the standout. Over a hundred skyscrapers are currently under construction in the Albanian capital, designed by more than fifty firms. It's an unusual portrait of a city in rapid transformation. We also enjoyed Róisín Lafferty and Dublin Design Studio's contemporary extension of a Georgian villa on Ireland's east coast. It feels like a considered addition rather than an imposition. If you're into public space, the Gustafson Porter + Bowman parks feature is also worth a look. The studio designs for slow growth, in step with the communities around them.

Who’s Abitare for?

Abitare looks towards new ideas and innovations in the design world. With technical case studies and more specialist language, it’s not the easiest entry point, but it offers a forward-thinking take on modern architecture. You can tell it’s proud of its Italian roots, with original text presented alongside English translations, set against photographs of unusual buildings and art projects from around the world. It’s one for inventive designers looking to push their ideas further.
