Wobby Volume 10 No. 39

Wobby is a biannual visual arts magazine from the Netherlands, bringing together illustration, literature and comics. It has a colourful, independent feel, with work that often leans towards the more playful and experimental.

What grabbed us about this issue.... Using the theme of ‘Local Liar’ - a nod to small newspapers that expect to be taken at their word - this issue brings together a mix of imagined news stories by artists and illustrators. We enjoyed the bold combination of graphics and text throughout. Towards the back, the adverts section plays on the format of traditional classifieds, while an illustrated guide to “hating your neighbour” adds a more playful note.

Who is Wobby for?
This would suit you if you enjoy graphic art and thoughtful storytelling, where ideas unfold visually rather than through long passages of text. The risograph printing gives each page a distinctive, slightly handmade feel, with layered colours and textures. You don’t need any background in illustration to get into it, it’s something you can dip into, moving between shorter pieces in no particular order.
