Wobby

Wobby Volume 10 no. 40

Wobby is a biannual visual arts magazine from the Netherlands, bringing together illustration, literature and comics. It has a colourful, independent feel, with work that often leans towards the more playful and experimental.

What grabbed us about this issue....The theme of Critter Talesgives this issue a storybook quality, with fairytale characters and mythical animals taking centre stage. We kept coming back to The Midnight Forest Feast,a comic-strip illustration where an unlikely gathering unfolds: horned beasts, wolves, tiny pigs and talking pea pods all attending the outdoor party. The Soup Spirit has a similar warmth to it, following a homemade soup that takes on a life of its own.

Who is Wobby for?
This would suit you if you enjoy graphic art and thoughtful storytelling, where ideas unfold visually rather than through long passages of text. The risograph printing gives each page a distinctive, slightly handmade feel, with layered colours and textures. You don’t need any background in illustration to get into it, it’s something you can dip into, moving between shorter pieces in no particular order.
