Wobby Volume 11 no.41

Wobby is a biannual visual arts magazine from the Netherlands, bringing together illustration, literature and comics. It has a colourful, independent feel, with work that often leans towards the more playful and experimental.

What grabbed us about this issue....

This issue reflects on the familiar phrase “get well soon”, exploring ideas of healing in a more personal way. We kept coming back to the story of Jacob, who is trying to be a better father to his young daughter. It’s a detailed piece, with an unusual style of writing that benefits from a slower read. Across the issue, the combination of graphics and typography adds another layer, giving you a bit more to sit with as you move through it.

Who is Wobby for?

This would suit you if you enjoy graphic art and thoughtful storytelling, where ideas unfold visually rather than through long passages of text. The risograph printing gives each page a distinctive, slightly handmade feel, with layered colours and textures. You don’t need any background in illustration to get into it, it’s something you can dip into, moving between shorter pieces in no particular order.
