Disegno

Design Reviewed #2

Design Reviewed is a collection of essays from Disegno examining design as experienced by the people who actually use it.

What grabbed us about this issue...

Issue 2 keeps the same structure and raises the stakes. In Praise of Public Toilets is the essay to find first. Piti Koshimura makes a serious case from an overlooked subject. Death is in the Air takes the media category somewhere genuinely uncomfortable. Natalie Kane’s Seeing Through the Hype rounds things out with a technology essay that does exactly what the title promises, without tipping into cynicism.

Who’s Design Reviewed for?

Design Reviewed is one for when you want design writing that starts with experience rather than aesthetics. Each essay takes a different category, from policy and ecology to interface and phenomenon, and works outward from how it actually feels to be a user. You can tell this comes from Disegno’s stable. The writing is rigorous without being academic. This would suit you if you already think critically about the designed world and want writing that keeps pace with that. Think of it as a user review of everything around us. It’s one to reach for when you want to look at the ordinary with a sharper eye.
