Disegno

Disegno #32

Published quarterly, Disegno is an independent magazine dedicated to in-depth reporting on architecture, design and fashion.

What grabbed us about this issue...

Issue 32 opens with the Met’s Afrofuturist period room, bringing together Hannah Beachler, Jomo Tariku and Ini Archibong to discuss what it means to design a future from a suppressed past. Matrix, the pioneering feminist architecture collective, gets an archival feature alongside it. Recovered memories from a practice that shaped British social housing in the 1980s deserve exactly this kind of attention. Mumbai’s historic chawls facing redevelopment rounds out an issue with a strong thread of community and built heritage running through it.

Who’s Disegno for?

Disegno is one for when you want design writing that treats the subject as a political and cultural force. Each issue moves between architecture, fashion and design without privileging one field over another. The writing is long-form and independent. This would suit you if you’re already engaged with design culture and want criticism that keeps pace with that thinking. Think of it as a quarterly journal of design ideas rather than a showcase. It’s one to reach for when you want to feel properly inside the debate.
