Disegno #36

Published quarterly, Disegno is an independent magazine dedicated to in-depth reporting on architecture, design and fashion.

What grabbed us about this issue...

Issue 36 has a strong thread of design and cultural identity running through it. We enjoyed the study of Lagos’s tropical modernist architecture and the role of art in shaping it. If you’re interested in African design history, this is the feature to find. The Togo sofa’s starring role in Rye Lane is also worth a look. Following a piece of furniture through a film is a sideways route into design history and it works. How the chocolate bar got its form rounds things out with something more unexpected. It’s exactly the kind of question Disegno asks best.

Who’s Disegno for?

Disegno is one for when you want design writing that treats the subject as a political and cultural force. Each issue moves between architecture, fashion and design without privileging one field over another. The writing is long-form and independent. This would suit you if you’re already engaged with design culture and want criticism that keeps pace with that thinking. Think of it as a quarterly journal of design ideas rather than a showcase. It’s one to reach for when you want to feel properly inside the debate.
