New Humanist

New Humanist Autumn 2025

First published in 1885, New Humanist is a quarterly magazine of ideas, science and culture.

What grabbed us about this issue…

This Autumn 2025 issue turns its gaze to space, asking who it belongs to and how we should look after it. We kept coming back to Jess Thompson’s piece on the message NASA sent into space aboard the Pioneer probes in the 1970s, and how it reflected the attitudes of its time. If you’re into film, you might enjoy a look at the latest Superman movie and its hopeful vision of a kinder America. There’s also a collection of views from scientists and philosophers on protecting space for everyone that’s worth a look if you like hearing a range of perspectives.

Who's New Humanist for?

New Humanistis one for when you're seeking a bit more connection to the world around you. Think of it as a way to stay across the latest ideas in science, politics and culture, with articles that don't assume much prior knowledge. It's one to reach for when you have a bit of time to yourself - the crossword at the back is worth saving room for too!
