New Humanist

New Humanist Summer 2021

First published in 1885, New Humanist is a quarterly magazine of ideas, science and culture.

What grabbed us about this issue…

This Summer 2021 issue looks at the rise of conspiracy theories and how we can push back against them. We kept coming back to Gayan Samarasinghe’s piece on face-reading in court, which raises some unsettling questions about how judgements are made. If you’re into TV, you might enjoy the look at colour-blind casting in Bridgerton. There’s also a piece on the life of poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning that’s worth a look if you love literary history.

Who's New Humanist for?

New Humanistis one for when you're seeking a bit more connection to the world around you. Think of it as a way to stay across the latest ideas in science, politics and culture, with articles that don't assume much prior knowledge. It's one to reach for when you have a bit of time to yourself - the crossword at the back is worth saving room for too!
