New Philosopher 32 Energy

Published quarterly,New Philosopherexplores philosophical ideas from past and present thinkers on ways to live a happier, more fulfilling life.

What grabbed us about this issue…

Issue 32 explores energy, starting with humanity’s first spark of fire and asking what we need to consider as we harness the modern equivalent. We kept coming back to a piece on whether leaving the lights on really matters, which takes an everyday question and gives it a surprisingly thoughtful answer. If you’re interested in the body, you might enjoy the look at sleep as a way of conserving energy. There’s also a retelling of the myth of Prometheus that’s worth a look if you like seeing ancient stories applied to modern problems.

Who's New Philosopher for?

Don't be put off by the title - New Philosopheris good for those new to philosophy as well as the more experienced. You can see the thinking that goes into each issue, with longer interviews sitting alongside shorter reads and visual infographics. The layout gives you room to breathe between each piece, so you can dip in and cherry-pick based on your interests. It's one to savour on a quiet afternoon, when you have the time to think a little more.
