Fare Issue 14: Mexico City

Published biannually, each issue of Farebrings a different city to life by exploring its culture through food, history and community.

What grabbed us about this issue…

Issue 14 opens on the canal-lined floating farms of Xochimilco, where the last remnants of the city’s ancient agriculture still function. We enjoyed how that starting point frames everything that follows. Dagoberto Gonzalez’s ceramic studio is also worth seeking out. An Afro-Mexican ceramicist working with the volcanic black sands of his ancestors’ villages is a practice with a very specific kind of rootedness. The tacos al pastor feature rounds things out with the most unexpected detail in the issue. A city-wide favourite with Ottoman origins is the kind of food history Fare pursues better than most.

Who’s Fare for?

Fareis one for travellers who like to experience a city like a local. It feels more like an immersive travel experience than a magazine. Each issue features the work of local writers, photographers and illustrators to capture the sights, sounds, smells and creative spirit of each city. Printed on high-quality paper, it’s a great size to fit in your luggage. So whether you use it as a pocket-guide or inspiration, it’s worth keeping handy when you want to visit somewhere new.
