Conquista

Conquista Issue 22

Conquista is a long-form cycling magazine exploring the sport’s overlooked figures, hidden histories and quieter achievements.

What grabbed us about this issue...

Suze Clemitson’s Bordeaux-Paris history is the centrepiece. Conquista calls it cycling’s Moby Dick, ancient and near-mythical. The comparison earns its keep. Matthew Bailey’s piece on the difference between a prologue and a Stage 1 time trial sounds niche and is. It’s also completely absorbing once you’re in it. Chris Lanaway’s photography from Bologna’s Giro opener rounds the issue out with something immediate alongside the historical deep dives.

Who’s Conquista for?

Conquista is one for when you want cycling writing that takes the sport seriously. Each issue goes looking for the stories that results pages don’t tell. The writing is long-form and unhurried. This would suit you if you already know cycling well and want to go deeper. Not the easiest entry point if you’re new to the sport, but it rewards those who stay with it. Think of it as a literary journal that happens to be about cycling. It’s one to reach for when you want to spend proper time with the subject.
