Conquista

Conquista Issue 21

Conquista is a long-form cycling magazine exploring the sport’s overlooked figures, hidden histories and quieter achievements.

What grabbed us about this issue...

Suze Clemitson concludes her Swinnerton Sisters history in this issue. Part one told Bernadette’s story in issue 20. Catherine and Margaret’s is equally worth your time. Papa’s Bravas takes a different turn. Tom Owen and photographer Matt Grayson rode from Madrid to Pamplona tracing the Spain Hemingway loved. It reads as a road trip and a literary portrait in equal measure. Elsewhere, a Grand Tour achievement so quiet that even the team hadn’t registered it gets the attention it deserved.

Who’s Conquista for?

Conquista is one for when you want cycling writing that takes the sport seriously. Each issue goes looking for the stories that results pages don’t tell. The writing is long-form and unhurried. This would suit you if you already know cycling well and want to go deeper. Not the easiest entry point if you’re new to the sport, but it rewards those who stay with it. Think of it as a literary journal that happens to be about cycling. It’s one to reach for when you want to spend proper time with the subject.
