Disegno

Disegno Issue 38

Published quarterly, Disegno is an independent magazine dedicated to in-depth reporting on architecture, design and fashion.

What grabbed us about this issue...

Issue 38 opens with cave_bureau’s bid to save Mount Suswa from water scarcity. We enjoyed how it sits alongside the more object-focused features without losing its urgency. If you’re interested in design and material heritage, Christien Meindertsma’s celebration of the natural composition of linoleum is worth finding. She brings the same rigour to materials that Disegno brings to the discipline as a whole. We also kept coming back to Stephen Burks Man Made’s work sculpting objects that honour ancestors. It raises questions about what design is actually for that the rest of the issue quietly echoes.

Who’s Disegno for?

Disegno is one for when you want design writing that treats the subject as a political and cultural force. Each issue moves between architecture, fashion and design without privileging one field over another. The writing is long-form and independent. This would suit you if you’re already engaged with design culture and want criticism that keeps pace with that thinking. Think of it as a quarterly journal of design ideas rather than a showcase. It’s one to reach for when you want to feel properly inside the debate.
